Kirsten and Anne's trip to Italy - September 2010

After a manic summer Kirsten and Anne escaped for a week's Gastro tour of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Starting in Venice we quickly introduced ourselves to Prosecco & Bellini (a delicious peach and prosecco cocktail) in Harry's bar where the Bellini was invented by Giuseppe Cipriani, the founder of Harry's bar. We feasted on fresh fish from the lagoon, amazing fresh pasta, tasty veg & salad. Then off to Trieste, the capital coffee roasting in Italy! - so excitig trying all the different blends and roasts - then headed for San Daniele, one of the most important centres for cured meats in the country. They say that their ham is so good due to the combination of the mountain air, the sea breeze from the Adriatic, salt from the sea and the high quality of their pigs and I can hand on heart say it was the most delicious ham I have ever eaten.

After Anne drove the twisty roads along the base of the dolomites Kirsten took on the crazy motorway drive into Verona, where we spent a blissful two days gorging on Gelato, cheeses, cured meats & pastries...It is safe to say Kirsten is now even more in love with Italy than ever!
