local info
At first glance Aviemore seems like a 'drive through' town but
take a closer look. This town got its roots from the railway which
first put it on the map and caused the sprawl of functional houses,
surrounding it, which were the fore runner of the greatly improved
architecture of today. This is a town with much to offer each
expectant tourist (further information at www.visitscotland.com).
Whether a relaxed or structured holiday is sought all the amenities
and services one could possibly require are 'in situ'. The accommodation
available is diverse, covering tent through to hotel (see www.aviemore.co.uk).
Although skiing generated the birth of Aviemore as a tourist
resort, there is an abundance of activities available to suit
all needs both indoor and outdoor including a very good Leisure
Centre. The Cairngorms provide good skiing,
climbing
and walking - the railway
is an experience as are the Virtual Display/History rooms at the
Centre. Botanists and gardeners alike are catered for with details
of the conservation of the Cairngorms together with local Garden
Centres and Nurseries. Retail therapy is also plentiful in
Aviemore with a good variety of shops from Crafts, Home Baking,
Clothes to an excellent Book shop.
